Potato Spindle Tuber Viroid(PSTVd) is a viroid that is a member of Pospiviroidae family. This viroid has single-stranded circular RNA genome. The natural hosts of PSTVd are potato (Solanum tuberosum), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), pepper (Capsicum annuum) species. The symptoms of the viroid change due to species from mild to severe. Common symptoms in severe situations are color changes in the foliage, smaller leaves and spindle-like elongation, necrosis, fruit ripening and stunted growth with a ‘bunchy top’ caused by shortened inter-nodes. The disease is mechanically transmitted by contact between healthy and diseased plants, tractor wheels, tools, etc.
