Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) might be the most economically important virus disease of citrus in the world since it killed more than 50 million trees. Not only caused death of millions of trees, it also caused millions of useless production. Because of its devastating effect, Brazil and other South American countries named this virus “tristeza” which means sadness in English. CTV is a flexuous rod virus and it has a single strand of (+)-sense RNA enclosed by two types of capsid proteins. The size of its genome makes CTV one of the largest RNA viruses known. With this specially designed RT-qPCR kit, it can be detected with Real-Time PCR instruments.
