Pectobacterium (formerly Erwinia) is a Gram-negative plant-specific pathogen, causing soft rot disease of various plant hosts and blackleg in potato by degradation of the plant cell wall. Pectobacterium sp. from field-grown diseased plants produced from inoculated seed tubers. Cells become hyper-flagellated and highly motile when grown in a medium containing fructose at 26°C.
