Strawberry mottle virus (SMoV) is recognized as one of the most widespread viral pathogens affecting strawberry (Fragaria spp.) crops worldwide. As a member of the Secoviridae family (genus Sadwavirus), SMoV is characterized by its bipartite, positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome. While it often remains latent in many commercial cultivars during single infections, its primary economic impact is realized through synergistic interactions with other strawberry viruses. These mixed infections result in “Strawberry Decline,” causing severe mottling, leaf distortion, and a significant reduction in plant vigor and fruit yield.
