Chrysanthemum Stem Necrosis Virus (CSNV) is a single-stranded RNA tospovirus within the Bunyaviridae family’s Tospovirus genus. Originally considered a serogroup of Tomato spotted wilt virus, it was formally recognized as a distinct species causing severe symptoms, including stem necrosis, in chrysanthemums and tomatoes. CSNV has been identified in Brazil, the Netherlands, the UK, and Slovenia, prompting eradication efforts in affected nurseries. The virus, transmitted by thrips, is economically significant, causing widespread damage since 1997 in Brazil and presenting a continued threat to chrysanthemum and tomato crops.
