Amaranthus palmeri, an annual herb, is spreading rapidly beyond its native range in North America. Considered one of the most invasive dioecious amaranths, it has become a major weed affecting various crops in the United States. The seeds of A. palmeri are unintentionally dispersed through agriculture and trade, causing substantial impacts on crops such as cotton, maize, soybean, and sweet potatoes. Its success is attributed to high fecundity, fast germination and growth, prolific seed production, and the development of herbicide resistance, notably glyphosate. Climate change is expected to further expand its range by creating suitable conditions for its establishment.
