Apple Green Crinkle Associated Virus (AGCaV) is a member of Betaflexiviridae family that has the positive-sense single-stranded RNA (+ssRNA) genome. AGCaV may be a variant or strain of Apple Stem Pitting Virus (ASPV) with unique biological properties, but there is evidence that it may be a distinct putative foveavirus. This virus infects especially apple and pear species all around the world. The virus remains asymptomatic in apple and most pear pears, however; infection can stimulate leaf vein yellowing and red mottling or necrotic spot, fruit deformation and stony pits on susceptible pear trees. There is no known vector to transmit. This pathogen spreads by grafts, infected instruments, and infected propagative materials.
