Cucurbit Aphid-Borne Yellows Virus (CABYV0),aka Polerovirus CABYV, is a polerovirus (family Luteoviridae) that infects cucurbit plants worldwide. Its genome consists of a single-stranded positive-sense RNA. Primary hosts include economically important crops like melons, squash, cucumbers, and pumpkins. Symptoms typically involve yellowing and
thickening of older leaves, while fruits may become small, malformed, and poorly colored. The virus is persistently transmitted by aphids,
especially the cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii), which spreads the pathogen during feeding. Once acquired, the vector remains infectious for life. Management relies on controlling aphid populations, removing weed reservoirs, and using resistant varieties when available.
