Rhizoctonia solani (RHIZSO) is a soil-borne fungal pathogen causing diseases like root rot, stem canker and damping-off in various crops. The fungus attacks seeds, roots and stems, leading to brown lesions, wilting and plant death. It survives in soil and plant debris as sclerotia for years. The disease spreads through contaminated soil, infected transplants and water movement. Warm (25-30°C), moist conditions favor infection. Heavy soils with poor drainage are particularly susceptible. The pathogen has a wide host range including potatoes, beans, cotton and ornamentals. Control requires an integrated approach: use of clean seed, crop rotation with non-hosts (3+ years), proper drainage, and fungicide-treated seeds. Soil solarization and biocontrol agents (Trichoderma spp.) can reduce inoculum levels. Severe infections may cause complete crop loss in favorable conditions.
This kit is specifically designed for the detection of Rhizoctonia solani by using Real-Time PCR instruments.
