Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) is a plant virus belongs to the genus of Tobamovirus and it is first described in 2015. It has spread rapidly since it was first noted in Jordan and Israel. The main hosts are tomato and peppers. The virus causes symptoms including mosaic and distortion of leaves and brown, wrinkly spots (rugose) on fruits. Outbreaks of this virus can cause huge economical losses.
Pepino Mosaic Virus (PepMV) was originally described in Peru on pepino (Solanum muricatum) and found to infect tomato and related wild species. The most important PepMV symptom is the typical fruit marbling, which significantly impacts the economic value of the crop. PepMV appears to have an economically significant impact only in tomato crops grown under intensive cultivation practices, although the virus can infect pepino, aubergine (Solanum melongena), potato (Solanum tuberosum), tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), and basil (Ocimum basilicum) as well.
Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) mostly transmits by thrips and can cause serious losses in economically important crops and it is one of the most economically devastating plant viruses in the world. Prevention is key in managing TSWV. Once a plant becomes infected with TSWV, there are no practical ways to cure the virus infected plant. Since there is no cure for this virus, it is crucial to detect them as early as possible.
