Salmonella Dublin is a bacterial pathogen adapted primarily to cattle and is responsible for salmonellosis, which can cause severe systemic disease, particularly in calves. Infection may lead to fever, diarrhea, respiratory signs, septicemia, abortion, and, in severe cases, mortality. Unlike many other Salmonella serovars, S. Dublin can establish persistent infections in cattle, allowing apparently healthy animals to shed the bacteria and contribute to transmission. It is also zoonotic and can cause severe illness in humans. Rapid and accurate molecular detection supports pathogen identification, disease surveillance, and effective control measures to protect herd health and public health.
