Phytophthora citrophthora is a globally prevalent and economically damaging pathogen affecting citrus production. Unlike many of its congeners, it exhibits both soil-borne and aerial infection cycles, causing devastating Brown Rot of fruit and Citrus Gummosis (foot rot). The pathogen invades the cambium and cortical tissues at the trunk base, leading to necrotic lesions and characteristic gum exudation. On fruit, it induces a firm, leathery brown decay that spreads rapidly during cool, wet periods or during post-harvest storage.
