Xanthomonas fragariae(XANTFR) is a slow-growing, Gram-negative bacterium with a single circular genome, causing angular leaf spot in strawberries. It is primarily spread through splashing water, contaminated tools, and infected plant material. Characteristic symptoms include water-soaked lesions on the underside of leaves that later become necrotic and translucent, reducing plant vigor and fruit quality. The pathogen overwinters in infected debris or asymptomatic plants. There is no curative treatment; control focuses on strict sanitation, resistant cultivars, certified disease-free transplants, and copper-based bactericides.
