CLVd was originally described as a viroid usually latently infecting various ornamental species ( Brunfelsia undulata, Columnea erythrophae, Nematanthus wettsteinii). Affected plants take on a stunted appearance and have chlorotic and deformed leaves (epinasty), possibly with necrosis of the nerves. this viroid appears to be seed-transmissible in this species. As with other Pospiviroid, however , mechanical transmission from plant to plant during cultural practices is very likely.
