The virus is abundant and infects cucurbits and other crops (e.g. cucumber, melon, alfalfa and lettuce) as well as weeds. It is one of the RNA viruses, it has Positive sense ssRNA and it belongs to the family of Closteroviridae, genus Crinivirus. CYSDV is considered an ’emerging virus’ and is increasingly recorded from a number of European, American and Asiatic countries. Infected cucurbit crops display yellowing symptoms on the leaves and this damage leads to an approximate yield reduction of 30-50 % in Spain and Lebanon. With this specially designed RT-qPCR kit, it can be detected with Real-Time PCR instruments.
