Fire blight is a plant disease caused by the bacterial species Erwinia amylovora on wild medlar, hawthorn, quince, walnut, apple, pear and mountain ash. Fire blight is probably the most serious bacterial disease affecting Pyrus communis (pear) and Malus domestica (apple) cultivars in many countries. Erwinia amylovora is the causative agent of fire blight, a disease that affects many species of the Maloideae subfamily of the Rosaceae (Spiraeoideae) family.
