Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) was originally described in Peru on pepino (Solanum muricatum) and found to infect tomato and related wild species. The most important PepMV symptom is the typical fruit marbling, which significantly impacts the economic value of the crop. PepMV appears to have an economically significant impact only in tomato crops grown under intensive cultivation practices, although the virus can infect pepino, aubergine (Solanum melongena), potato (Solanum tuberosum), tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), and basil (Ocimum basilicum) as well. This RNA virus can be detected with Real-Time PCR instruments with this specially designed RT-qPCR kit.
