Potato Virus S (PVS) is a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA of approximately 8.5 kb, encapsulated within its filamentous particle plant pathogenic virus which initially documented in the Netherlands. PVS typically induces mild or no symptoms in most potato varieties and is widespread in potatoes across various regions, causing minimal yield losses. Due to its perceived lack of significant economic impact, field-grown potatoes are not routinely screened for this virus. However, PVS often coexists with other potato viruses in mixed infections, potentially intensifying symptom severity.
