Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus (CGMMV0) is a highly contagious plant pathogen belonging to the Tobamovirus genus. Its genome consists of a single-stranded, positive-sense RNA. The virus causes severe economic losses in cucumber, melon, watermelon, and other cucurbit crops worldwide. Characteristic symptoms include chlorotic mottling on leaves, fruit discoloration and distortion, stunted growth, and significant yield reduction. Transmission occurs primarily through contaminated seeds, mechanical contact (tools, clothing, hands), and infected plant debris. The virus particles are exceptionally stable, persisting in soil and plant remains for several years. Control relies on strict sanitation, certified seeds, crop rotation, and removing infected plants. Early detection through molecular methods (RT-PCR) is crucial for preventing epidemics in both greenhouse and open-field production systems.
