Ditylenchus destructor(DITYDE) is a destructive plant-parasitic nematode that primarily infects potato tubers, causing significant yield losses. These microscopic worms penetrate plant tissues, feeding on cells and causing characteristic dry rot symptoms. Infected tubers develop cracked, flaky skin with internal tissue breakdown that often leads to secondary infections. 

The nematode thrives in cool conditions (15-20°C) and can survive for years in soil or plant debris. It spreads through contaminated seed tubers, soil, and farming equipment. Management requires an integrated approach including: use of certified clean seed, crop rotation with non-host plants for 4-5 years, soil solarization, and nematicide treatments when necessary.
